Pepe
Weak evidence Evidence 95%
Key facts
Why
Contract source includes owner-only blacklist() and setRule() (trading limits) functions, and a mint only in the constructor. On 2026-10-07 owner() on the contract returns the zero address (ownership renounced, read via Ethereum RPC; also reported by Ethplorer and Blockworks), so those functions can no longer be called. Renounced rather than absent by design, but no privileged key remains. No proxy/upgrade, per the Blockworks filing. Anonymous holders of the launch team multisig can still sell their tokens (see unlock).
source source sourceWhy
No vesting or unlock schedule: per Blockworks, no cliff, vesting or time lock applied to any allocation and the 6.9% team multisig was spendable from launch. Roughly 25% of the original multisig holdings remained as of the Canary ETF S-1 (per Blockworks), unlocked and freely movable at any time. Supply is fixed (no mint function); 6.9T PEPE were burned in Oct 2023.
source sourceWhy
A memecoin with no protocol, fees or revenue concept; no issuer revenue is reported (Blockworks filing reports no treasury, DevCo or token sales).

How measured
PEPE is an ERC-20 memecoin with no protocol, fees or revenue stream; nothing to report.
How counted
Ethplorer top 10 shares on 2026-10-07 (share of total supply 420.69T): 8.83, 6.76, 6.17, 3.35, 3.08, 2.04, 1.91, 1.80, 1.75, 1.64 = 37.33%. INCLUDES the burn address 0x...dead (1.64%) and exchange/custody wallets: 0x5a52...efcb is 'Binance 28' (Etherscan). Labels for the other addresses were not found (Blockscout shows no tags), so how much is exchange, contract or individual is unverified. Ethereum only.

Incidents and legal actions
Incidents
- 2025-12 Security firms (Blockaid) reported that the official Pepe website had a front-end injection carrying 'Inferno Drainer' wallet-drainer code, redirecting visitors to malicious links. This was a website compromise, not a smart-contract or protocol exploit. Outcome: Forklog (5 Dec 2025) reported no stolen funds or total losses figure; whether any user lost funds, and when the site was fixed, was not verified. No user funds lost source
Regulator and court actions

What we could not verify
Not verified: who controls the post-2023 team multisig and its threshold (unpublished per Blockworks); labels for 9 of the top-10 holder addresses; whether the Dec 2025 website compromise caused any user losses; the Blockworks filing is compiled from public sources and project-supplied information it does not verify (it is marked 'Partial - 4 gaps'); no audit exists as far as found. CoinGecko page text showed a wrong price ($0.054066 without subscript notation); used markets API price of $0.00000408 (rounded by the API).
